Why do my solar panels stop when the grid goes down?
Ordinary grid-connected solar equipment is designed to stop feeding a failed grid. A home needs an approved way to separate from the utility and establish a local electrical supply before solar can serve loads during an outage. The presence of panels on the roof does not show that this capability was installed.
